Powerhouse Theatre Company

Powerhouse Theatre Company was set up in 2007 by writer director Geoff Lawson. With over thirty year's professional experience working in theatre, television and film as actor, director, producer and writer, a long held ambition to establish a company producing high quality work across a wide age range was finally realised.

We aim to appeal to a wide audience with the emphasis being on young people and also keen to reach audiences who have little or no experience of theatre. Our mission is to keep the work accessible, relevant and inclusive, using theatre as a stimulus to learning and giving our audience an experience which will hopefully serve to make them want to come back for more.

We are also keen that Powerhouse becomes a resource for groups and organisations to ‘plug into’ whereby our skills can be utilised for workshops, training, teaching etcetera.

We are continuing to forge links with teachers, drama therapists, theatre practitioners and musicians which helps us further develop our work and we remain positive that our openness will help in encouraging more participation in our projects.

We aim to work to a high standard and endeavour to employ actors, designers, stage managers and technical crew who are like minded to ourselves, being passionate, committed and creative in their work.

2010 was a busy year. We performed two new plays, Our Tudors and Phantasmagoria, Geoff Lawson toured extensively with CBBC presenter Katy Ashworth from I Can Cook to countless children across Surrey plus two sell out shows at the Electric Theatre. We also performed Alice In Court at the Guildhall (recreating the court room scene from Alice In Wonderland) we were also proud to have received a special Lord Mayor's award for services to the community which now sits proudly in our new office.

Electric Theatre

The Electric Theatre is a unique community venue in the heart of Guildford. None of the important theatre performances and community outreach work we have done and continue to do, would be possible without their invaluable support. We appeal to people of all ages and social groups and the Electric Theatre's positive approach helps in facilitating all our activities.
Our relationship goes from strength to strength and the theatre's continued crucial support in helping Powerhouse in all it's important community projects, is appreciated and by all at Powerhouse.
